Buffalo, NY Positions:


Software Group Manager

Within the scope, goals and constraints of customer projects, the Software Group Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the technical work of software engineers in the Engineering Team. The Software Group Manager is also responsible for managing and leading projects to deliver products and services, to ensure that customer needs and expectations are met, and to ensure that company policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices are profitably followed on assigned projects. This position reports directly to the VP of Engineering.


Responsibilities:

  • Leads projects including but not limited to identifying requirements, designing solutions, and implementing or overseeing the delivery of projects to meet customer needs and objectives.
  • May be assigned to manage multiple projects during a given time period.
  • Reviews the work of software engineers to ensure that analysis, designs and implementations meet customer needs and follow company standards and practices in the assigned technology discipline.
  • Performs all steps in the software engineering project life-cycle (specification, design, implementation, testing and debugging, staging, installation, and maintenance), for large and complex projects to design and implement computer software solutions that meet customer specifications.
  • Maintains professional skills at a level consistent with other similar professionals in the field, and keeps up with changing technologies and trends in the areas of work process analysis, software application and system design, programming languages and techniques, software quality assurance, and project management.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Inside Relationships::

  • Works independently or as the lead of a technology team to complete software engineering tasks related to the assigned technology discipline for diverse types and sizes of projects.
  • Responsible to document work, and report or coordinate efforts with management, and other team members.
  • Works closely with the VP, Engineering, and other group managers to ensure objectives are being met.

Customer and Financial Responsibilities:

  • Meets with customers, vendors, and subcontractors to exchange and coordinate information.
  • Responsible to ensure that the work of all project team members are completed within the constraints of time and cost on assigned projects.

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science.
  • Requires four or more years of experience managing mid-sized software development projects.
  • 3 - 5 years hands-on experience in large scale C++ software.
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) software a plus.
  • US Citizenship required.



Software Engineer

The Software Engineer is responsible for gathering and analyzing computer software system requirements, designing solutions, and implementing the designs as finished applications and systems including: specification, computer code writing, testing, and documentation. Follows standard practices and procedures to analyze data or problems and create readily obtainable solutions that meet customer needs. This position reports directly to the Software Group Manager.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs all steps in the software engineering project lifecycle (specification, design, implementation, testing and debugging, staging, installation, and maintenance), using standard practices and procedures, to design and implement computer software solutions that meet customer specifications.
  • Provides system level and application support for installed software.
  • Works independently or as part of a team to complete moderately complex projects or segments of a larger project.
  • Responsible to document work, and report or coordinate efforts with management, and other team members.
  • Maintains professional skills at a level consistent with other similar professionals in the field, and keeps up with changing technologies and trends in the areas of software application and system design, programming languages and techniques, and software quality assurance.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.
  • Communicate status reports on a consistent, accurate, and timely basis.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Skills:

  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot system problems.
  • Ability to identify emerging technology and incorporate it as needed.
  • Ability to manage one's own time effectively.
  • May be assigned to work on multiple projects during a given time period.

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science.
  • 3 - 5 years hands-on experience in large scale C++ software.
  • Linux and Windows development experience.
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) software a plus.
  • Requires expertise in one or more of the following specific areas of software programming and software engineering: distributed applications development, Internet applications development, database development.
  • US citizen preferred.
