Rohini K. Srihari, Ph.D., CEO, Founder and Chief Scientist
Dr. Rohini Srihari founded Cymfony in 1995 and served as its CEO until January 2001. She launched the company on its present trajectory by obtaining several Department of Defense contracts on information extraction technology. She also led Cymfony in obtaining two rounds of private equity investment in 2000.
As a faculty member of the Computer Science and Engineering department at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB or SUNY-Buffalo), Dr. Srihari has served as Principal Investigator on grants and contracts focusing on information retrieval, machine learning and statistical Natural Language Processing (NLP) from organizations such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), CIA, DARPA, and Kodak.
Richard Smith, Vice President of Engineering and General Manager, Government Systems
Richard Smith has over 20 years of experience in building and delivering a wide variety of software solutions, including E-Commerce, real-time process control, sales automation, military command and control, and electronic warfare applications. He is responsible for Janya's technology commercialization, deployment and delivery.
Prior to joining Janya, Richard Smith was the Director of Engineering at the Moore Research Center. Before that, he was Software Manager at Comptek Federal Systems, Inc. where his team delivered an Air Force Command and Control system that was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. He received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Canisius College.
John Weaver, Vice President of Business Development
John Weaver has over 15 years of business development, customer service management and operational experience in a wide range of fields which include the information technology, national security, travel, and political sectors. Prior to joining Janya, he was a Vice President and founding partner of Special Needs at Sea, a travel services company supporting disabled travelers in 25 countries. He also served as the Chief Operating Officer of Harbinger Technologies Group, providing linguistic search tools and training for customers in the military, intelligence, and homeland security fields. Serving over 10 years in the political and Congressional environments, John acted as principal adviser to three members of Congress and staffed several political campaigns. He received his undergraduate degree in political science from North Carolina State University and completed graduate work at both the U.S. Naval War College and the U.S Air Force Command and Staff College.
